Spicy Garlic Sriracha Grilled Chicken

Spicy Garlic Sriracha Grilled Chicken

Let's get real here- Chicken can get boring, especially when meal prepping is involved. This is one of my go to recipes for spicing up chicken. I grill a batch each time I meal prep and either portion it out into individual servings or keep it on hand to use on salads or in lettuce wrapped tacos.  This recipe is low in sodium, fat and carbs and high in protein which makes it a perfect choice for those trying to loose weight and/or gain lean muscle mass.

Ingredients:

1/4-1/3 cup Sriracha hot red chili sauce
5-7 cloves of garlic minced
1/2 packet Mrs. Dash salt free taco seasoning or low sodium taco seasoning
2-3 pounds boneless, skinless chicken, sliced thin.
non-stick olive oil spray
Optional: Chopped cilantro for garnish

Steps:

  1.  Combine all ingredients in a large bowl or a large plastic bag and marinate in refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  2.  Spray grill with non-stick spray and grill chicken about 4 minutes on each side until cooked through or reach an internal temperature of 160 to 165 f.
  3. Garnish with chopped cilantro if desired.

Transform Your Temple by Following this Simple Advice

Each year Americans spend over 20 billion dollars trying to lose weight on diet plans, books, weight loss drugs and weight loss surgeries (ABC News). The truth is people are desperate to lose their excess weight and they are eagerly searching for a remedy for their problem.  Extreme diets, special foods, shakes, pills, you name it and they'll try it and pay a lot of money for it!  I was once in this group of people, so desperate to try anything that promised to shed the extra pounds that I carried on my body like a prison sentence.  I became a slave to dieting.  But each diet I tried would always fall short of the big promises it promoted and with each attempt of losing weight, I actually got fatter and even more desperate for a remedy.  It was an endless cycle and it left me exhausted, heartbroken, and with little hope that I would ever be able to free myself from the excess weight I carried!  I've shared many times, that part of what brought my freedom and eventual success at losing 160 pounds was transforming my thoughts about weight loss.  By ditching the world's view of "dieting" and embracing the concept of being on a lifelong health journey, I finally broke the chains of obesity forever and you can too, my friend! Let me share something else, in my many years of searching for answers, I was blinded to the truth that God has already given us everything we need to live healthy lives!  We're out there blindly searching for answers, when the solution is already right in front of us!

God gave us his living word as a tool to guide us through life and the Bible instructs us to treat our bodies as if they were a temple! (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).  You wouldn’t fill a temple with trash or overlook the required maintenance to keep it pristine in appearance and function.   If we are to view our bodies as temples, we should be treating them as such!  We should be filling them with the most nutritious foods God created and doing regular “maintenance” such as exercise to keep them in top condition.  Are you exhausted of looking for answers for your weight problem?  The solution is really that simple my friends, follow God's design and eat the foods he created for you to eat and you will be on your way to becoming the healthy child he created you to be!

It’s Time to Assemble Your Army!

Let’s get real here, life is hard!  It doesn’t matter how many perfect smiling photos you post on Instagram or how many “look at how great my life is” status updates you post on Facebook, the truth is you got problems just like the rest of us!  While I’m not suggesting we start a new social media movement of airing out our dirty laundry for all of the world to see, but perhaps it’s time to stop wearing the ridiculous masks of perfection we’ve been hiding behind for so long! These disguises we so diligently wear create a barricade between our pain and the world around us.  We don’t want others to see our wounds, our scars, our heartbreaks, our disappointments, or our failures in life.  So we stuff those suckers down deep inside, in hopes that they never become exposed for all to see.  Our desire to do this is likely deeply rooted in the fear of being rejected, judged or criticized by our family and friends.  And since they are all busy wearing their own masks of perfection, we’re likely blinded to the fact that they’ve got some issues too and maybe even the same ones as us!  We’re shocked when we hear the news of certain celebrities, who have remarkable talent and seemingly amazing lives, yet, make the decision to prematurely end their own lives.  The personas they present to the public do an amazing job of masking the pain and suffering they were secretly fighting.  While the societal norm may be to mask our pain, suck it up, and hide our scars from the world, in adhering to this trend we are doing ourselves a great disservice.  We were not designed to walk through life or any trial in this life alone, my friends!  Love, encouragement and support serve an essential role to someone who is fighting any life battle.  If we think we’re alone in fighting our battles, we’re more likely to throw in the towel and give up, but if we know there’s someone out there who’s willing to get in the pits with us and stand by our side in the darkest times we’re more likely to keep fighting.

As someone who lost over 160 pounds the old school way of eating healthy and exercising, I can tell you that losing weight is very much a trial!  Certainly, it is not as grim as some life trials may be, but it most definitely is one that will push you to your psychological limits.  There is an old African proverb you’ve likely heard before that says, “it takes a village to raise a child” and from my experience I would pose the argument that it also takes one to successfully lose weight and restore your body!  Trying to lose weight without any support from family and friends can be likened to sending an untrained and unarmed soldier out on the battlefield alone, it likely won’t turn out well for him.  The same is true for weight loss, sure, you can do it solo but without the proper training, equipment and support, the odds are stacked highly against you! When setting a weight loss goal, it’s important to create a plan on how to reach that goal.  I’ve written previously on the importance of having a battle plan and how to create one, here.  After you have created your battle plan, it’s important to assemble your army of supporters to help you reach your goals.  These are your biggest cheerleaders, the people you can call when you mess up and need to be encouraged!  The people who will lift you up when your strength to fight is dwindling.  The ones who remind you of the importance of what you’re fighting for! These are the dear ones who will stand by your side in hard times and also be the first ones to celebrate the victories with you along the way! If you’re ready to conquer the battle of the bulge, it’s time to assemble your army!
